NHC Lexington's comprehensive rehabilitation services are a significant part of our dedication to the concept of total patient management. Through continuing education programs, our licensed therapists are able to provide treatment using the most current techniques and methodologies available. Our inpatient and outpatient services provide treatment to adults with all types of injuries, illnesses, and disabilities.

PHYSICAL THERAPY

Physical therapy provides rehabilitation services that help to restore function, improve mobility, manage pain, as well as aid in the prevention or limitation of disabilities as a result of injury or disease. Physical therapists use electrical stimulation, hot and cold therapy, massage, and other physical and electrical modalities to reduce pain and increase range of motion. They also teach mobility training using prostheses, wheelchairs, canes, crutches, and walkers. Physical therapy is an appropriate intervention for cerebrovascular accidents (i.e. strokes), orthopedic injuries and surgeries, developmental delays, etc.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

Occupational therapy helps patients regain as much independence as possible with self-care and activities of daily living, upper extremity function, and perceptual/cognitive abilities. Our occupational therapy services provide activities of daily living retraining utilizing compensatory techniques and adaptive devices as needed. Upper extremity therapeutic exercise and activities are also used to encourage range of motion, strengthening, and coordination for patients who have experienced a CVA (stroke), orthopedic injury, surgery, etc. Hand therapy and splinting are also provided for upper extremities. Occupational therapy can also utilize ultrasound or paraffin hot and cold packs to assist the therapeutic process.

SKILLED NURSING CARE

Our skilled nursing services provide transitional care for patients who require intensive restorative care. Whether it is needed for a few days, weeks or months, our physician-directed, subacute health care services are designed to complement or even be a substitute for a hospital stay.

NHC Healthcare, Lexington's skilled nursing services include IV therapy, pain management, wound care, and daily lab services, as well as other specialized treatments.

SPEECH THERAPY

Speech therapy helps patients overcome communication conditions such as aphasia, swallowing difficulties, and voice disorders. Our speech therapists will conduct evaluations and therapy for speech/language disorders, dysphagia, voice or audiological disorders; while also utilizing augmentative communication and aural rehabilitation as needed.

RESPIRATORY THERAPY

Respiratory therapy assists patients with breathing difficulties to reduce fatigue and increase tolerance in performing daily activities. Our respiratory therapist also manages the care for patients who are receiving Oxygen by mask and/or nasal canula, or receiving any other form of breathing related treatments.

MEDICAL NUTRITIONAL THERAPY

Medical nutritional therapy promotes a better diet and healthier lifestyle with personal counseling and nutrition guidance. Our registered dietitian conducts regular nutritional assessments and monitors patient diets to assist in weight management, diet control, and ensuring proper nutrition based on the patient's individual needs and preferences. We are proud to be one of the few sub-acute settings to provide Vital Stem therapy to treat those suffering from dysphagia.
